Dr John Warnock and Charles Geschke started Adobe Systems, Inc in 1982 after becoming frustrated while at Xerox developing a page description language (PDL) they were working on. The final two-dimensional graphics handling product was named PostScript. Adobe PostScript was a common language PDL for both computers and printers - a revelation at the time. This led to a close association with Apple Computers in 1984-85 which is said to have created a whole new industry - desktop publishing.
In 1987 Adobe Systems, Inc brought out their own DTP software "Illustrator". At this time they owned the rights to 200 typefaces. In 1988 Adobe added thirteen fonts to its library and introduced the Font Folio, a hard disk containing its entire font library. The rest as they say, is history! |
