URW++ GmbH was formed on January 1, 1996 and is registered in the city of Hamburg, Germany. The URW++ Library is substantial and is available in PostScript®, TrueType® and OpenType® formats, although only OpenType is sold from this site! OpenType® is the new UNICODE cross-platform font format developed by Adobe and Microsoft. The key advantages of OpenType® are:
• its cross-platform compatibility using only one font file for both Mac OSX and Windows 2000/XP and
• the possibility to have extended character sets in one font (West, East, Cyrillic, Greek, but also small caps, swashes, ligatures, fractions and so on), and
• to optionally define special Layout Features to enhance the typographic capabilities.

Where you see 'D', 'P', or 'T' in the font name it indicates a specialised cut and kerning per: [D] = kerned for Display applications • [P] = kerned for Poster applications • [T] = kerned for Text applications
