Book jacket typefaces are nearly always elegant or dramatic but because of the standard format of most books they must nearly always be a condensed design, so that the title and the authorís name can be spread across the cover in a large point size. The x-height is usually greater than the text faces and semi bold sans and semi bold serifs are by far the most popular. With the modern trend of embossing the title, light typefaces with thin strokes should be avoided. The typeface Ellington was designed with book jackets in mind. |
