Magazines have similar problems to newspapers in handling their text, but they have one important advantage, they publish on good quality stock. This means that they can set their text with fine seriffed faces and not be too concerned about the loss of quality. As a result, magazine text setting is one of the few areas where there is a diversity in the usage of type for text. The faces used are nearly always serif, but range from high contrast stiletto styles such as Fenice through to generously rounded classics such as Bembo and Galliard. Through careful text selection, the magazine publisher is trying to create a subtle but unique colour on the page, to which the reader associates. |
